QUERY

Select query special filter & ranking criteriaRef#73

Please read the note on selecting (simple) query filters and ranking criteria first. The special filter and ranking are different from simple filters only in that multiple attributes, i.e. composite criteria occur here. These allow handling of more complex conditions for filtering and ranking. Each special criteria that you select for ranking has to be assigned a weight - this usage is similar to simple ranking query criteria.

Some filters contain attributes that participate in multiple filters (especially special filters) - so you should be careful not to duplicate your attribute selection(s) - JAAPlus is not able to warn you of possible conflicts. For indicating selection of criteria please mark the checkbox.

Special Filter criteria name column is followed by the column of cost factor. The cost factor summation is used to classify the type of query - simple, advanced or complex - the rate is lowest for simple and highest for complex queries.

The next column shows the No.of occurrences Max(n) where n represents the max occurrences allowed in filter as well as ranking usage (unlike in simple filters where the number of occurrences for filter and ranking usage are different). You should skip or enter the no. of occurrences desired by you in your query construction by entering the appropriate number.

The last column is for the ranking criteria WEIGHT - you enter the weight only if you intend to give multiple occurrence values/properties with different scores for ranking purpose. After the selection, there is a separate screen, where for each occurrence of the special filter criteria, you will set the values (properties) and assign the score to be used in ranking

Normally you should be using filter(s) to set the outer bounds and ranking to discriminate multiple sets of those properties/values that qualify (i.e. those that fall within the filter bounds). In case you have selected one or more criteria as filters in conjunction with others just for ranking, you should note that the ranking conditions should be a subset of the filter criteria else they will be ignored.

CAUTION: It is advisable to go through the entire list of simple and special filters and ranking criteria before you exercise your choices. You should use filters cautiously because they eliminate matches. Do not select filters that include the same attribute (you could select the filters containing the same attribute provided you can omit giving values to the attribute that is duplicated - this may not always be permitted). You should read the specimen special filters and explanatory notes to completely understand the correct usage. Incorrect usage (conflicting values) or unnecessarily restrictive and complex conditions may eliminate good matches or generate irrelevant responses. Filters and ranking criteria afford a precision tool for you to control the selection process and obtain pointers to the best fits. You can fire multiple queries after changing criteria sets or values based on a study of responses or sensitivity analysis report.
